One of the most popular and charming beaches in Itajaí, Praia Brava was the target of an environmental clean-up action last Saturday (8), with the presence of dozens of volunteers mobilized by Superia Global. With an office based in Praia Brava, the international trade solutions company mobilized employees, family members and partners to clean up the beach and raise awareness about the impact of solid waste on the ocean.
The gathering of volunteers began at 9am at Lagoa da Brava. The volunteers used gloves, buckets and plastic bags to collect and store the waste. Pet bottles and cigarette butts were the waste most commonly found by the volunteers. Some of the waste was put on display throughout the morning on a footbridge with the aim of drawing attention to the neglect of the environment in a place that should be cared for by everyone.
The clean-up was part of an initiative by the socio-environmental committee, an internal group recently created at Superia and made up of employees who, through projects, encourage people to connect with the local environment. “This committee was created with the aim of trying to understand the issue and bring knowledge into the company,” explains Mateus Laurentino, Superia’s brand, people and culture manager.
All the micro-waste collected was sent to Eco Local Brasil, a company that transforms plastic waste into toys for children. Another part of the waste, larger in volume and size, was sent to a waste collection institution.
