Plastics Manufacturing Market in Brazil

The Brazilian plastics processing industry is an economic pillar, processing around 3 million tons of polymer raw materials every year.

Plastic and Polymer Resin Supply Chain

The plastics sector covers a wide range of materials, such as PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate), HDPE (High Density Polyethylene), PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride), LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene), PP (Polypropylene) and PS (Polystyrene), each meeting specific industrial needs.

Main supplier countries

In the context of Brazilian plastic imports, the main supplier countries are:

United States: Tops the ranking in terms of value imported, with more than US$1.475 billion.
Colombia: Second in terms of value, but leader in tons imported, with more than 330,000 tons.
Germany: Contributes significantly with approximately US$200 million and 78 million tons of plastic imported.

Competitive advantages of importing polymers and plastic resins

To meet the demands of the sector, importing polymeric materials has become a strategic option. Ricardo Verwiebe, a trader at Superia, explains the main reasons that encourage the plastics industry to seek inputs on the international market:

  • Diversification of supply sources: Importing allows access to a wider variety of materials that may not be available locally, guaranteeing flexibility in the choice of suppliers.
  • Reducing costs: International competition can result in more competitive prices, reducing production costs and increasing the competitiveness of Brazilian companies.
  • Quality and Innovation: Countries like the United States, Germany and China are known for their advanced technologies and high quality standards, offering innovative and high-performance products.
  • Response to Variable Demand: Importing makes it possible to quickly adjust the supply of raw materials according to market demand, ensuring greater agility in operations.

Import Process: Basic Modalities

How to import resins, engineering polymers and other plastic materials:

  • Import on behalf of the client: The importer acts as the client’s agent, carrying out the import according to their instructions and on their behalf.
  • Import by Order: The importer buys the products specifically ordered by the client, who has already defined the characteristics of the material desired.
  • Import on own account: The importer buys the products for resale on the local market, assuming all the risks and responsibilities of the operation.

Be sure to explore all the opportunities available and seek out strategic partnerships to maximize the tax and economic benefits of importing polymers and resins. Talk to us now.
